An approach dedicated to fostering and developing a deeper comprehension and appreciation of Hinduism in R.E
Namaste, I am Tanuja Shukla. I was born into a Hindu family in South Africa during the apartheid era, a time of great social and political upheaval. Growing up in such a unique environment shaped my understanding of cultural identity, spirituality, and the importance of fostering respect and inclusivity. Later on in life I chose the specific path of Bhakti Yoga where I received a spiritual name, Tulsi Seva Dasi.
I teach about broad Hinduism as well as my own Bhakti tradition and worldviews derived from my practice and upbringing.
Curious about religion, I pursued and completed a BA in, Philosophy, Ethics and Religion. Passionate about RE and Worldviews, I believe the subject is unique and valuable in the UK and contributes to respect and understanding of beliefs which is important in creating inclusivity in our diverse society.
I strive to create spaces where students can engage with Hinduism in a respectful and interactive way, nurturing their curiosity and expanding their global perspectives.

She then spent time in Year 3 where they looked at what it is like to be a Hindu in the UK now and Year 5 looked at questions about how the story of Sita and Rama influences Hindu lives. Tulsi answered questions about her beautiful Saris clothing the holy book they use and how it feels to be a Hindu and how it affects her everyday life! The children really enjoyed it and have talked lots about it since.

Tulsi came to our assembly to talk about Akshaya Tritiya. This is a Hindu festival of new beginnings which is being celebrated today. We enjoy celebrating the great diversity of our community at Longwood so this was a great experience for our children.

Thank you so much for coming in to visit us on Monday. Your assembly was very informative and pitched well to the different age groups.
The children learnt a lot from you.
Thank you again for your help. It really was very beneficial to the children and I hope that we will be able to work together again in the future.
